A JOURNEY FROM THE EARTH’S INTERIOR
Drawing on the rock type diabase and how it was formed, we have created a table where we have first intentionally broken something that is whole, in order to then create by hand an interesting meeting of the parts that once were joined. The sparkling shine in the stone’s surface symbolises the glowing magma that gives way to a coarser structure, which is then toned out to become the rigid and magical black diabase
INSPIRATION
-“During all the years we have spent creating in diabase, we have always been fascinated by the enormous forces that were at work when our bedrock gave way to the glowing magma that forced its way up from the Earth’s interior through narrow cracks in the grey rock. VEI (volcanic explosivity index) is the scale that defines a volcano’s strength. We have striven to recreate this force in our creations, which is why cracks are often a recurring element in our works. The crack in this table is a symbol of how the bedrock was broken up and divided in order to make way for this magical black diabase.”
